SACU brings our own "Oscars" to schools in San Antonio with the Golden Apple trophy, made by the company that creates the Oscar for the Academy Awards.
SACU and KENS TV celebrate 11 years of the ExCEL Award
SACU and KENS 5 celebrated the 11th year of honoring excellence in public schools through its award winning ExCEL Award program by hosting a banquet for the 19 teachers honored during the 2009-2010 school year.
Winners from the 19 area districts, their principals and superintendents joined SACU and KENS leaders at a banquet, held at the Club at Sonterra. Gordon Hartman, philanthropist and creator of the new Morgan's Wonderland Park in San Antonio, was the special guest speaker.
Since 1999, the organizations have recognized 290 teachers with a trophy and a check. The award has become very prestigious in the education community. Approximately every two weeks, SACU and KENS recognized an educator from one of the public school districts with a Golden Apple trophy made by the company who creates the Oscar for the Academy Awards, a cash award for $1,000 and featured airtime on Eyewitness News at 6. The 12th year of the program resumes in September 2010.
